Anyone have book 2?

Finishing the first book of Death Note, I wish I had the second book to keep reading about Light’s and L’s battle. Their minds are so similar that it makes the book that much more enjoyable to read.

When Light tried to kill Naomi when he thought she was Shoko, it shows how reliant he is on the Death Note. He starts to freak out when she doesn’t try to commit suicide and that typically doesn’t happen to him. He’s typically very suave and knows every step of his plan 3 steps before they happen. However, he’s smart enough to figure out that she gave him a fake name by thinking about it. “What’s so funny about her name-? It’s an alias!!” (Pages 310-311) His first thought about using force to learn her real name was out of character. He usually uses the Death Note to do all his dirty work and you would think that he wouldn’t have the guts to do anything to anyone physically. Of course, he conned his way into learning what her real name is just by talking to her and inviting her to join the task force.

With L using his father’s permission to bug the house, Light had to reveal his secret about his door to Ryuk. Most people would only use one thing, maybe two, to check to see if anyone went into their room. I, on the other hand, have never thought about doing something like that. To me, having that many contraptions is almost telling people that you’re hiding something in your room. Most family members wouldn’t think twice about you having something in your room that you want hidden, but then again, his father is the Chief of Detectives. I’d be scared to if someone found something as important as the Death Note in my room.

  1. I definitely thinking about renting the second volume of Death Note from the library! I agree, the battle between L and Light is so compelling due to their equally strategic but opposingly moral actions. Both characters are determined to win no matter what and I think towards the end of volume one we are starting to get into the “no matter what” part. I was totally with you when reading about Lights interactions with Naomi. With his past record it wasn't hard to believe that Light was smart enough to figure out “Shoko” was lying, but it's also hard to believe that he would've done anything physical to obtain her true identity. However, even though physical confrontation is out of character for Light I think he actually considered it and probably would've followed through if necessary, for he is to determined to win. As I said the end of volume one was edging more and more out of character for both Light and L as Light started to think beyond using the death note to get what he wanted and L began suggesting things like bugging the homes of NPA agents. The competition is getting to both of their heads more than I initially bought I could.
