And That's The End

I’m very happy to be done with The Heroin Diaries. It was a good book for being an auto-biography, but as I’ve said before, they don’t interest me very much. I did like that it showed the truth behind the fame in the 80’s and even sometimes now in the 2000’s. Nikki said throughout the book, he didn’t like the fame as much as he thought he wanted it. Sure, he enjoyed the money, the drugs, and the girls, but he wasn’t able to do what he wanted to do. I think that’s what also started with the drugs. If he didn’t become famous, there’s a good chance that he wouldn’t have become as bad of a druggie that he was. He could’ve made Nona and Tom proud like he always wanted to do. “I hope she can’t see me now ‘cause who I turned out to be would break her heart.” (Page 364).

I was surprised to read so much detail of how he died a second time. The first time it was just a quick “here’s what happened”. This time he went as far as his experience as he was dying. Everyone likes to think that you’d be able to float and see what’s going on when you die. I don’t know if he actually had that experience or if he just thinks he remembers that. Like when you have a dream but can’t remember if it was a dream or if it actually happened. Him dying that second time really turned his life around. If you read the first passage about Christmas to the last passage, the difference is tremendous. It’s crazy what can happen to you during a year.

  1. I did enjoy the Herion Diaries, but I'm also glad to be done as well. I thought it was really interesting to see a perspective from someone who was actually on drugs, but I also thought it was getting a little repetitive. Throughout the book he would shoot up, freak out, pass out, try to get sober, and then end up shooting up again. I liked reading about all their crazy stories though. It's cool to know what a rock band actually does behind the scenes on tours. Also I also think it's crazy how much can change in a year. Even looking at my life, it's not like I had a drug addiction or anything but looking back to a year ago I had different friends and enjoyed doing different things. So like Nikki Sixx, my life also completely changed within the past year.

  2. I think that throughout the entirety of the Heroin Diaries Nikki Sixx's behavior towards death is shown as carefree, he doesn't really have much of a will to live. When he dies for a second time something changes within himself that helps him realize that he wants to live. An out of body experience would change anyone's perspective on death. What happened to Sixx in one year seems crazy to the average person, but knowing it was real and not a made up story gives the reader a bigger sense of empathy for Sixx's struggles throughout the novel.
